Why Should You Hire a Car Accident Lawyer?

You will need a RI auto accident lawyer to represent you in your lawsuit because insurance companies are unlikely to just hand you the amount you deserve. Naturally, their main goal is to maximize their profits. This means they have an incentive to pay you as little as possible and get you to sign a liability release form, which will bar you from further recovery. However, the little amounts that these companies offer are rarely enough to cover your medical bills, let alone other monetary damages such as lost wages and pain & suffering. Therefore, hiring an experienced attorney who specializes in traffic accidents is your best option.

We are experienced in litigating all kinds of traffic accidents, including car, truck, and motorcycle accidents. Legally speaking, there are some differences between these cases. Motorcycle accidents result in a higher degree of severe injuries and fatalities than any other type of motor vehicle collision. Similar to car accidents, victims of motorbike accidents are entitled to monetary compensation for the losses they have incurred including medical costs, lost wages, pain and suffering and emotional distress. Our team of dedicated accident attorneys will guide you through the legal process every step of the way. Similarly, truck accidents usually have more clear liabilities due to the negligence of the truck driver. Every year more than 75,000 individuals sustain catastrophic injuries resulting from truck accidents. Large trucks pose a serious danger on the road for motorists. Our law firm is dedicated to helping people who have been injured in truck accidents receive just compensation for their injuries. Contact us today to consult with us for free, with absolutely no obligation.

When you are involved in an accident and suffer damages, you are legally entitled to be compensated by the negligent and responsible parties, or their insurance carriers. If you miss work, you will also be entitled to be compensated for lost income. If you stayed at the hospital and had medical bills, then you will be compensated for your medical expenses as well. It is the insurance carrier’s ethical duty to pay you for any and all damage that you sustained. Unfortunately, the insurance industry does not operate based on ethics. Most insurance adjusters are trained ask you questions that are designed to trick you, so they can legally eliminate or significantly reduce their debt to you. The most important advice that we give our clients is to never speak to the other party or their insurance carrier. Let us handle that part. We are the best law firm to represent you because we care about our clients and we will fight for you all the way.

We will take the proper steps to show that the other driver was acting in a negligent manner while he or she was driving. For example, if a driver is on the phone while driving, or intoxicated, they were being negligent. A law firm that is also highly experienced will be able to counter the other party’s attempts to get your case dismissed and win your case. Our offices also have a motorcycle accident lawyer on board to assist injured victims of these devastating crashes.

For instance, there are many drivers that will run a red light, endangering the lives of other people on the road. If you are the victim of a traffic accident, contact us for immediate assistance. Remember, our consultations are free, and when we take a case, we do not charge our clients a penny until our client wins. If you don’t win, then we don’t get paid. That’s how confident we are in our expertise.

While you can never completely avoid the risk of a car accident altogether, you can significantly reduce the chance that you or your loved ones suffer serious injury or death.

Wear your seatbelt – Research has found that the proper use of a seatbelt reduces the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger car occupants by as much as 45 percent and the risk of moderate-to-severe injury by up to 50 percent.  Observational data from NOPUS has put seatbelt use for all U.S. passenger vehicles at around 86 percent.  Buckle up.

Use car safety seats for children – According to the NHTSA, proper use of child safety seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers in passenger car accidents.

Obey the speed limit – The NHTSA reports that 30 percent of fatal accidents are speed related – that amounts to over 10,000 deaths in 2012.

Keep up with safety recalls for your vehicle – 2014 was the “year of the auto recall” with automakers issuing more than 550 recalls for more than 52 million vehicles.  Some of the recalls are for minor issues, but many were issued to fix very real safety issues.  For example, Ford issued a recall for 2 parts in the ignition of several models that could cause the car to shut off and loose steering and prevent the airbag from deploying.  You can search for recalls by vehicle make and model or by entering your car’s VIN into the database at

Don’t drink and drive – Alcohol was a factor in over 10,000 motor vehicle fatalities in 2012.

Watch out for pedestrians – In 2012, 4,743 pedestrians were killed by cars in the United States and the vast majority were not at intersections.

What to Do After a Car Accident In RI?

Car wrecks are traumatic and can leave you in a state of shock and injured. Still, it is important to know what to do after a car accident so you can prepare yourself for future litigation. What you do the day of your accident and immediately afterward can directly impact your ability to receive compensation, along with the amount you eventually settle for. Here are steps you should take after your accident:

Nothing is as important as your safety. If you can move your vehicle to the side of the road, do it. Use your hazard lights and horn to warn surrounding drivers that you are on the move. If you cannot move your car, put your hazards on, prepare to honk, and call 911 for help. In this situation, getting out of your car can actually be more dangerous than staying put because your car will be much easier to see and avoid than you will be, and your car offers a certain level of protection.

As soon as you are safe, pull out your smartphone and start taking pictures of everything. You will want photos of all vehicles that were involved. Each side should be photographed and any damage needs to have a close up shot. Next, take pictures of the road and any debris but do so at a safe distance. You should also take pictures of surrounding buildings, street lights, stop signs, and anything else that could help tell the story of what happened. Remember, a jury will never step foot on that road. If it is a busy highway, show them with pictures.

Be sure to file a report with the police, since this will be a valuable piece of evidence later on.

Take down their name, address, phone number, insurance information, driver’s license number, and license plate number. You should also document the make and model of the car and whether or not they were “on the job” when they hit you. If, for example, they hit you while making a delivery, the company they work for could be liable.

Even if you think you are fine, you need to see the doctor right away. Many people ask what to do after an accident but fail to do this important step. Shock can make you feel better than you actually are, so do not take your health for granted. Simultaneously, your doctor and medical file will be critical for your case, so make sure they open a new one for you.

We can help you open a claim with the insurance company, make sure you receive the medical care you need, and that your rights are protected.
